I’m looking for some advice in choosing appropriate online databases for middle school students (7th & 8th grades). My school currently subscribes to SIRS Discoverer and Grolier. I would be interested to know if people have had good experiences utilizing other databases for this age group.

You might try looking around at the Library 2.0 site. You could register and post a forum thread to ask the question. You might also look at the work of Debbie Abilock from NoodleTools on 21st century literacies.
