New Hiring Practice

November 6th, 2007 by · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

I just read an article called “Interviewing 2.0- the future of hiring?”  The article mentions interviewing a potential teacher candidate on Skype followed by questioning some of the teacher’s students as well.  Interesting idea!  Seems that would be easier than flying someone across the country.

Bad, Bad Blogger

November 3rd, 2007 by · 1 Comment · Uncategorized

I’m a bad, bad blogger for my fellow school “teammates”.  I’ve spent my time “surfing” the blogging world trying to find sites that will help me and haven’t been very good about responding to others posts.  Part of my problem is that I’m resistant to the idea and would rather spend my time reading a good book than sitting at my computer.  I am learning a lot from my “research”, however, and am glad that I’m being exposed to new knowledge.  One  article that I recently read, by Christopher Harris  has some great ideas about the direction libraries should be taking.  Reading it made me feel challenged and overwhelmed with all the changes on the horizon.  I guess that’s how blogging makes me feel, too.

Online Databases

I’m looking for some advice in choosing appropriate online databases for middle school students (7th & 8th grades).  My school currently subscribes to SIRS Discoverer and Grolier.  I would be interested to know if people have had good experiences utilizing other databases for this age group.

Beginning Gitters

I am a beginning blogger.  The whole world can read what I write.  Will I have anything worthy of being read by others?  Right now I think I’ll read more than write, but that feeling may change.
